An Interview With Dr. Pope
What do you enjoy about plastic surgery?
I like plastic surgery because patients are excited about their results. They send their friends in. It’s a very happy specialty to be involved in. It’s a great way to practice medicine.
What led you to become a plastic surgeon?
When I was young, I had a neighbor who was a surgeon. I found his stories about surgery fascinating, and I became interested in medicine. My interest remained throughout high school and college. In medical school, I realized I liked certain types of surgery better than others. I liked making people look better.
What are some reasons patients say they choose you over other surgeons?
My reputation in the community. Other doctors often refer their spouses and family members to me for plastic surgery. A lot of people become my patients through word of mouth.
How do you help patients have a positive experience with your practice?
I try to educate patients as much as I can during their private consultation to ensure they’re making an informed decision about their surgery. From the minute you contact my office, my staff works hard to get as much information to you as possible, so you can make an educated choice.
If you’re ready to have the surgery but anxious and unsure of what to expect, we can arrange for a patient who’s had the procedure to talk to you. If you’re OK with it, we can give your contact information to one of my patients who can talk with you about her/his experience with our practice and the procedure you are considering. Often having a discussion with another patient is all someone needs to be reassured and feel comfortable about moving forward.
