Some latest research suggests that Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing is as good a process as any other ablative CO2 laser treatments for rejuvenation of the aging facial skin. According to a study conducted by Michael J. Reilly, M.D., of the University Of California Los Angeles Medical Center, the molecular pathways and changes observed by Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing were similar to the established fully ablative CO2 laser treatments.
Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing provides more control over how deep the treatment can penetrate the skin. Other treatments don’t offer that. Because it can penetrate further, it helps treating loose skin, wrinkles and pigment irregularities on the neck, chest, and hand, minimizes facial scars from trauma or acne. Moreover the effects of Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing can last for a decade.
The study was published in September/October issue of the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery. The study author thinks that fractional CO2 laser resurfacing appears to be a promising technique especially since it may allow fast recovery and few side effects, while still rejuvenating facial skin to a more youthful look.
